Thanks, Everyone, for Your Encouragement and Support!

Good news!

Latest news: Sean Tubbs for Charlottesville Tomorrow -  Commission presented with details for McIntire’s eastern side – June 14, 2012

On May 16th, The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board voted to recommend a conceptual plan for McIntire Park East that includes many of the core elements along with a 9 acre botanical garden and passive trails. The recommendation also added an athletic field in the north end of the park and stipulated that golf would be moved to a new location no later than 2020, although the hill top would be open to the public for passive use immediately.

The Planning Commission will review the recommendation on Tuesday June 12th at 6:30 pm in City Council chambers, and then on to City Council for a final decision, possibly in September.

Opening up McIntire Park to the entire community to enjoy walking and biking trails every day of the week and creating a unique botanical garden for Charlottesville is now an exciting possibility, one that would not have happened without strong community support for the concept. All the supportive letters and e-mails, as well as the valuable input at the public meetings,  made a critical difference in this decision.

We thank everyone for your encouragement and support over the past year and we will continue to keep you posted as this recommendation moves through the decision process.
