Arbor Day Celebration
The McIntire botanical garden held a celebration of Arbor Day on April 26, 2010, at the Park. A tree which was donated by the Piedmont Landscape Association was planted to celebrate the City of Charlottesville’s designation as a “tree city” with the Arbor Day Foundation. The Master Gardeners oversaw the correct planting of the tree and demonstrated good practices using correct soil and other preparations that all newly planted trees require to thrive.
This planting is significant as it brings together the City of Charlottesville, Parks & Recreation Department, The Master Gardeners, the Virginia Extension Service and the Virginia Department of Forestry who will supply seedling trees that will be distributed for free.
