“Aug. 8 was marked by the first Music in the Park event in the east side of McIntire Park, sponsored by the McIntire Botanical Garden. Folks turned out to hear the wonderful music of the Travis Elliott band. Blankets were spread under the shade of the trees, picnic baskets appeared and children frolicked in time to the music.
“The free event was successful, as it brought people and families into the east side of the park who had never been there before and now could see the beautiful setting and some of the opportunities this park has to offer to the community in creating a public botanical garden.
“Our thanks to Travis Elliott and his band for providing the music and to everyone who came to listen and enjoy the evening.
“Helen Flamini is president of the McIntire Botanical Garden.”
