Volunteer Opportunities

The MBG Board and the City of Charlottesville are partnering to build and operate the future McIntire Botanical Garden on 8.5 acres in Charlottesville’s McIntire Park East. We welcome your involvement and assistance in moving this wonderful project forward to help us meet the anticipated opening in late 2018. Here are some volunteer opportunities.

Don’t see something that fits your interests or experience but you still want to help? Send a letter of interest to Joan Swanberg and we’ll be sure to contact you with future opportunities.

Education Committee Members

Serve on MBG’s Education Committee and help to identify goals and objectives for the public classes and educational activities that the future McIntire Botanical Garden will offer. Help shape the future of this valuable public resource! To apply, email your letter of interest to Lesley Sewell.

MBG needs a volunteer archivist to create and manage a searchable database for all newspaper articles, city and park information, etc. If you have an interest in preserving the history of the McIntire Botanical Garden for future generations, contact Helen Flamini.

Outreach Ambassadors

Periodically staff the MBG table at local events and venues to create awareness about and support of the garden project by talking it up, disseminating literature, encouraging sign-ups for newsletters and donations to help build the garden, and reporting back results. Some set-up and take-down duties. Occasional weekends required. Must be reliable, outgoing and friendly, and have your own transportation. Hours per week: 0-4. To apply, email your letter of interest to Anita Showers.

Speakers Bureau Coordinator

Schedule MBG presentations with area organizations and businesses, coordinate with trained speakers, perform follow-up, track and report results. Involves phone calling, emailing, and computer work. To apply, email a letter of interest to Helen Flamini.
