So … what is a botanical garden and why should Charlottesville want one?
A botanical garden is a collection of living plants and trees for display, research, education and conservation. A botanical garden offers visitors, families, students and the community a place to visit and enjoy the beauty and serenity of garden landscapes. With future pedestrian public access from many points in the city, the convenience and accessibility of the McIntire Park site will add to its success. From designed garden displays to beautiful trees, wildflower meadows and open grassy areas, the botanical garden will have something for everyone. The garden is a place to introduce children to plants and the environment in a natural setting.

We hope that you will help us plan!
- We are planting the seeds by sharing our vision and concept.
- We will nurture the ideas, grow and develop them as we partner with the community, the City and County and other interested groups.
Send us your ideas for a botanical garden in McIntire Park.
We see a botanical garden with views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, spacious gardens, walking paths, a garden, where children can explore and learn about the environment and the natural world. Open space to picnic and walk from the downtown mall to the park and enjoy your lunch.
What do you see?
